-Low Back Pain

What makes these Chiropractors different?

Chiropractors on this page have completed various trainings and seminars to be eligible for this site. If your chiropractor is not listed here,` it does not mean they are not skilled enough to help you. Below is as short description of the trainings we have included for the listed chiropractors. All Doctors of Chiropractic displayed on this site have completed additional pregnancy related training. Often, the more training a practitioner has completed, the greater their experience and knowledge base. This site makes no claims of benefit or guarantee of results, nor does it endorse any specific training or chiropractor. It's purpose it to help the Australian public find practitioners who may better serve them through their pregnancy. Their is currently no specialist registration capacity within the chiropractic profession and therefore the use of the term specialist is prohibited and not used on this site, nor is it implied by any of the listings.

We highly encourage multidisciplinary referrals and working with other practitioners. When we can all work as a team our clients are the ones that benefit.

Trainings and Seminars

Webster Technique

This is one of the most commonly requested techniques of Chiropractors in relation to pregnancy. The International Chiropractic Paediatric Association (ICPA), which teaches Webster, is one of the oldest and largest organisation in the world to teach this specific technique. The course includes an in-depth approach to a physiological birth and extensive training in balancing the pelvis.

"The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated."

Certification through the International Chiropractors Pediatric Association (CACCP)

The ICPA Certification Program is a comprehensive 200 hour, 48 credit program consisting of 19 course offerings. It is designed to expand professional ability in adjusting techniques, evaluation, and assessment of different stages of development: from pregnancy, birth, infancy throughout childhood. This is the more advanced offering based out of the USA and requires an extensive commitment over many years to complete. It implies a certain love and devotion for helping prenatal clients and gives the Doctor of Chiropractic a greater skill set in understanding how to support mums and bubs throughout this time.

Momentum Pregnancy Adjusting

Based on the principles of restoring ease to the body through gentle and effective chiropractic adjustments. This hands on training expands on the concepts and application of the Webster Technique. This particular training incorporates many different approaches to chiropractic care including advanced release techniques of the pelvis and uterine structures.  It is also a base level entry course into understanding the key elements of adjusting pregnant clients.

Spinning Babies Trainings

Picture
One of the most popular websites in the world for understanding pelvic and uterine dynamics of the pregnant and birthing women. This organisation has created a series of trainings for birth professionals including Chiropractors, Obstetricians, Midwives, Doulas, Physiotherapists, yoga instructors etc. They offer a one day workshop covering the principles of balance in the pelvis and uterus. They offer two seperate 4 day courses helping Birth professionals either become Parent Educators or Spinning Babies Approved Practitioners (SpBAP). The latter course is the more extensive course for bodyworkers seeking to expand their ability to serve their clients on a deeper level. While the name spinning babies implies the manual rotation of a baby there is no training or technique taught by this organisation that turns a baby using a force technique from the practitioner to the client. The turning of the baby is an obstetric manoeuvre only to be performed by obstetricians and no one else.

Evidence Based Birth

"Evidence Based Birth® exists to make a lasting positive impact on the lives of mothers and babies around the world". This incredible site gives access to parents and professionals the latest evidence around birth and birth choices. Empowering couples to make better choices backed up by evidence. This is an American based site, so not all information may be applicable to your birth setting. Evidence based birth professionals have completed and have access to 18+ hours of continuing education, monthly live training sessions, an entire library of their full-length PDFs, private forum and direct access to the founder and author Rebecca Dekker.

Optimal Maternal Positioning

Created to assist birth professionals in learning positional and postural changes to help labour progress. This training incorporates balancing activities and day to day advice for achieving better results throughout the pregnancy and labour.

Undisturbed Birth: The Hormonal Physiology of Childbearing

In this whole-day workshop, Dr Sarah Buckley presents her ground-breaking material from her 2015 report, Hormonal Physiology of Childbearing. Learn about four important hormone systems active in labour and birth — oxytocin, beta-endorphins, adrenaline/noradrenaline and prolactin– and how they act to enhance ease, pleasure and safety for mother and baby. Investigate the possible impacts of common maternity-care interventions on these delicate hormonal systems, including the effects of induction, caesareans and epidurals, and the possible consequences for mothers and babies. Discover and discuss how to optimise hormonal physiology and fill the “hormonal gaps,” when interventions are required.

 Certified Doula

A doula is a non-medical labour assistant, who provides continuous physical and emotional support to the birthing woman and her partner throughout labour and birth. Doulas may also support the woman to communicate her needs and wishes to the medical team. However, their key role is the creation of a birth environment which meets the woman's needs for safety, warmth and protection of disturbance. There are a growing number of Chiropractors who are also trained Doulas as it makes for an incredible support person during labour.
